Just wanted to let y'all know -- yeah, I say "y'all" now -- that everything's going well down here in Texas. I made the Navy Chess Team again this year (fourth year in a row!) and will be heading to Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Florida on June 10th to play the best of the Army, Air Force and Marine Corps. That's the big chess news for me.
Anyways, just wanted to drop a quick note to say I hope everyone's doing well and getting ready to enjoy a long, hot summer. Take care and keep in touch.

Hi Matt! I guess this board became dormant, or maybe it died altogether! Anyway, since I am not allowed to post a new topic, it seems, I will say this here: Albert Schoeman, a one-time Congressional candidate, many-time tournament director and organizer, former IASCA president, great chess supporter, fierce compertitor, and fantastic friend, has been checkmated in life. You may view the story here. Further news will be posted as it becomes known. Al always had a great love for chess, but, like yours truly, rarely studied it as that was"work". He seldom missed an opponent's error however, and would pounce upon same with the ferocity of a lion. When he was defeated, he always was gracious and often would remark "I got my head handed to me." Always the gentleman, he never would complain about extraneous factors causing him to lose; he just moved on; but he won far more than he lost. R I. P., Al. You will be missed in Iowa chess.
