Over the last few years, the membership of the IASCA have voted for new people to serve on the board or executive positions. Isn't it strange that almost all of them seem to have quit and we end up with the same people we had before? By no means am I implying that the current officers are not the best for our Association (I feel our current contingent represents a very good cross-section of Iowa chess, and that all are extremely competent for the positions they hold), but hasn't anyone else wondered this? I just hope that those who did not vote in the meeting or by absentee ballots don't think it's time to speak up—they lost that right by not exercising it on 04/18! OK, I'll get off the soapbox now.

After serving on the board for over three years I can say that there is only one reason I quit, and I believe it was the same reason Beydler and Nash refused their duties as well.

Congrats to Ron Nurmi for becoming the new secretary of the Association! Having Known Ron for many many years, I know he'll do well.

As I said before in another post, I only have a casual interest in chess myself as well as going to my son's tournaments. But I think the IASCA is the best kept secret in Iowa.
