I sent this as a letter to the editor, and will post the same concept here. Of all the Class B players in the IASCA, only six showed up to play in the class competition! Very disappointing. If that wasn't bad enough, we had to conduct the business of the IASCA on 04/18 without a quorum! To those who read this and didn't attend the meeting, I have two things to say: 1. If things in the IASCA don't go the way you want, you have forfeited your right to complain. 2. GIVE A HOOT!

;D hi dave! I enjoyed our time at the birds of spring I am afraid apathy is the rule nowadays, and not just in participating in chess tournaments. Many are simply afraid of losing I think ( and several others have confirmed this suspicion). Others have full-time jobs and families with just no time to play. alas for us who do and can play! I think additionally that many top-rated players do not see enough incentive to play--i.e. money! They feel they are too good to play for peanuts--and perhaps and probably they are correct in this.
Promotion is the key obviously, and chess can be quite attractive to some commercial interests which want to involves themselves in something of high culture and intellect like chess is thought to be generally.
Hope to see you over-the-board! good play Mark Thompson

That is your problem. Not my problem. I laughed at your absurd comments.

That is your problem. Not my problem. I laughed at your absurd comments. This is exactly the kind of attitude that keeps chess from becoming more popular in Iowa. Perhaps your energy could be channeled in a more positive direction so you are helping to fix problems in the IASCA instead of contributing to perceived existing ones? Just a thought. Regards, Matt

I'm sure many people do not care one iota about IASCA. For the casually interested like myself, if I did care, I wouldn't even know how, where, or when to voice my concerns (except here on this forum maybe).
